There's safety in solitude…isn't there?

Single dad and best-selling thriller writer Ethan James has no problem being Templeton Cove's most famous recluse…until a surprise visit from the past plunges him into a real-life crime drama just as feisty nurse Leah Dixon barges her way into his world.

Ethan's first priority is to protect his daughter. His second priority is to keep Leah out of this dark web—and that means out of his bed. Except Leah isn't going anywhere; she's afraid little Daisy is in danger. Ethan couldn't live with himself if anything happened to Leah…but pushing her away may be even harder!

Leah froze. How could she have been so stupid? He couldn’t possibly drive with his injured hand and now she’d have to endure sitting side by side with the man all the way to Clover Point. Which, strictly speaking, was a ten-minute drive tops…but still.
She forced a smile. “Of course, you are. I’ll grab a child seat from the trunk.”
Surprise widened his eyes. “You’ve got kids? I didn’t realize…”
“No.” She huffed a laugh. “But I am a little anal about being prepared for anything and everything.”
“Right.” His gaze softened with something that looked far too much like acceptance…as though he should have guessed as much. “Got it.”
Leah quickly looked away and walked to the back of her car. Shoving her first aid kit, car jack and mini tool box to the side, she pulled out one of the two child seats. Closing the trunk, she opened the back door and pushed the seat inside. She waved toward the open door. “All yours.”
She stood back as Ethan buckled Daisy safely inside, her gaze roaming over his strong back and perfectly edible ass encased in cargo pants. Sighing, and purposefully ignoring the twitch deep in her abdomen, she walked around to the driver’s side…but was too slow opening the door. Ethan’s steady gaze met hers over the car’s roof and for the first time in a long time, her automatic smile was far too long in coming.
She stood frozen to the spot.
The air seemed to charge with electricity as they stood staring at one another, until Leah broke the moment and took blessed escape by sliding into the driver’s seat.

A high school English teacher, an author, and a fan of anything pink and/or glittery, Lindsay's the English teacher cliché; she love cats, reading, Shakespeare, and Poe.

She currently lives in her hometown with her husband, Chad (her junior high sweetheart); their cats, Arya, Amelia, Alice, and Bob; and their Mastiff, Henry.

Lindsay's goal with her writing is to show the power of love and the beauty of life while also instilling a true sense of realism in her work. Some reviewers have noted that her books are not the “typical romance.” With her novels coming from a place of honesty, Lindsay examines the difficult questions, looks at the tough emotions, and paints the pictures that are sometimes difficult to look at. She wants her fiction to resonate with readers as realistic, poetic, and powerful. Lindsay wants women readers to be able to say, “I see myself in that novel.” She wants to speak to the modern woman’s experience while also bringing a twist of something new and exciting. Her aim is for readers to say, “That could happen,” or “I feel like the characters are real.” That’s how she knows she's done her job.

Lindsay's hope is that by becoming a published author, she can inspire some of her students and other aspiring writers to pursue their own passions. She wants them to see that any dream can be attained and publishing a novel isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

One of Iowa’s most prominent criminal attorneys, Joci Dorous is ruthless and devoid of emotion in the courtroom. It’s what makes her the best. Her most recent client allegedly committed murder and, despite a rocky start, Joci is determined to win Cameron Shearer’s case.

Since this is her first homicide, she has the support of a second-chair attorney—her ex who wants her back. To make things more complicated, her hunky cop of a booty call, Cameron’s arresting officer, isn’t quite ready to let her go either. Who knew being surrounded by three hot guys could be so deliciously exhausting?

As the mystery of the case unravels, she soon discovers the true reason behind Cameron’s impromptu visit to Iowa. It’s this knowledge that endangers all those she holds dear. Caught up in confusion, chaos, and criminal law, how will her heart survive the final verdict?

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. First of all, I'm not usually a fan of mobster/gang books, but the blurb caught my interest and I wanted to know how the story would end. This is the first book I've read by this author and I am a fan! Though written in third person the author still gives us enough information to know what the characters are feeling. Parts of the story will make you scream in frustration (but in a good way because it makes you even more devoted to reaching the outcome). I tried to throw my kindle at least two times! As for the characters, of course Cameron is the perfect combination of good guy & bad boy. At first I was torn between him and Quinn, the sexy cop, but never really grew fond of Adrian (maybe it was the lawyer part of him, lol). For most of the book though I stayed Team Cameron, even when he was frustrating the heck out of me. I didn't agree with a lot of Joci's choices, but I understood why she made them. At times I still wanted to shake some sense into her. And one thing that happens made me literally scream in frustration! I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to finish this book because of the mob angle or that it would make it hard for me to stay interested. I'd been in a book funk lately where I'd started three books but hadn't been able to finish them. But from the moment I started this, I couldn't put it down and the story stayed fresh in my mind. At the end I wished it was even longer because I want MORE of this story! (and more Cameron!!) I look forward to reading the next installment in this series
